Worship is the single greatest thing we can do; it is why we were created and it is why we are saved. Providence puts a great emphasis on the public worship of God, where God’s people congregate to worship him in Spirit and in truth. Our worship is structured around a dialogue between God and his people — God speaks and acts, and his people respond.
We are committed to expository preaching and teaching the Bible verse-by-verse and chapter-by-chapter. Our pastor works through entire books of the Bible, ensuring that the congregation hears the whole counsel of God. We believe that the preached Word is the primary means by which God builds up his church.
Our worship includes God’s call to worship, prayer of adoration, confession of sin, assurance of pardon, the offering, Scripture reading, singing of psalms and hymns, the sermon, and the benediction. We use the Trinity Psalter Hymnal, accompanied by piano. The Lord’s Supper is observed regularly, and baptism is administered as a sign and seal of the covenant of grace.
Parents are welcome to keep their children with them in the service as well. We believe that children are a blessing from the Lord and belong in the covenant community of God’s people. We have an unstaffed nursery space and a space for nursing mothers that parents can make use of and still hear the sermon.
